The Brook (Informal) - 6:00 PM (15)

This Sunday, we begin Holy Week with Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, which we call Palm Sunday. The crowd shouted "Hosanna in the highest" and "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” -- all in anticipation of the long awaited Messiah. But in the upcoming week, Jesus would show them that he was a "different kind of King." He would not come as a military conqueror who would deliver Israel from the Roman government. He would come in humbly, on a donkey, fulfilling Zechariah 9:9, "Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." By Friday, the shouts of "Hosanna. Hosanna in the highest" would be replaced by "Crucify him!" But we begin today waving our palm branches, as we begin our journey which leads to the empty tomb next Sunday!
